What is Myofunctional Therapy?
Watch the full interview here:
One of my favorite parts of running a marketing agency is getting the opportunity to work with passionate business owners who are genuinely changing lives in their communities.
Recently, I sat down with Becca Rose of Wisconsin Myofunctional Therapy for a conversation as part of my Small Business Spotlight series. These conversations are simple, informal interviews where local business owners share their stories, their challenges, and the work they’re doing to serve their communities.
Becca’s work is fascinating, and for many people, completely new.
(At the time of our original interview, the practice operated under the name Myofunctional Pathways. The business has since rebranded to Wisconsin Myofunctional Therapy to better reflect its regional focus.)
So, What Is Myofunctional Therapy?

If you’re like most people, you may not have heard the term 'myofunctional therapy' before.
I hadn’t either until I met Becca.
Myofunctional therapy focuses on the muscles of the face, mouth, and tongue, helping retrain these muscles so they function properly. When these muscles are working the way they should, they can help address a surprising number of health concerns.
Things like:
Open-mouth breathing
Snoring
Sleep apnea
Bedwetting in children
TMJ pain
Teeth grinding and clenching
Tongue posture issues
Speech and swallowing challenges
In simple terms, myofunctional therapy helps restore proper muscle function, which can lead to improvements in breathing, sleep, oral health, and overall well-being.
How Becca Found Her Calling
Becca didn’t originally set out to become a myofunctional therapist. Her background is in dental care, where she spent more than 20 years working in the dental field.

During that time, she attended a training session that introduced her to myofunctional therapy.
That training sparked something.
As she began learning more about the symptoms and conditions myofunctional therapy addresses, she started seeing connections everywhere, in her patients, in family members, and even in her own life.
That curiosity led her to pursue additional training and certification, eventually launching the practice that is now known as Wisconsin Myofunctional Therapy, where she helps both children and adults improve their health through functional therapy.
Who Can Benefit From Myofunctional Therapy?
One of the most interesting things about Becca’s work is the wide range of people who can benefit from it. Her clients range from toddlers to adults.
For children, therapy often focuses on things like proper tongue positioning, breathing patterns, addressing tongue ties, and just supporting healthy facial development
For adults, many clients come seeking help with things like TMJ pain, chronic clenching or grinding, sleep issues, and CPAP challenges. In some cases, improving oral muscle function can even help people reduce or eliminate their reliance on CPAP machines altogether.
A Business Built on Genuine Care
When I asked Becca what she hopes people think of when they hear the name of her business, her answer wasn’t about techniques or certifications.
It was about relationships.
She wants to be known for being genuine and truly caring about her clients.
Behind every appointment is a tremendous amount of preparation and personalized work. Seeing clients experience life-changing improvements in their health is what fuels her passion for the business. And honestly, that’s something that immediately stood out to me when we first started working together. Businesses that are built on real care for people tend to create the strongest long-term impact.
The Marketing Challenges Small Businesses Face
Like many small business owners, Becca started by doing everything herself.
She built her own website.
She tried to learn social media.
She experimented with marketing tools.
If you’ve ever run a small business, you probably recognize that phase.
You’re the owner, the technician, the accountant, the marketer, and the customer service team all at once.
Eventually, the demands of running the business made it clear that she needed help with the technical side of marketing so she could focus on her clients.
That’s when we connected.
Together we began improving the website, expanding content, and implementing local SEO strategies so people searching for these services could actually find Wisconsin Myofunctional Therapy online.
One of the biggest benefits she mentioned was simply having the data and analytics tracked for her. Seeing how visibility and search presence grow over time gives her the confidence that her efforts are working.
A Vision for the Future
When I asked Becca where she hopes the practice will be five to ten years from now, her vision was clear. She wants Wisconsin Myofunctional Therapy to become a trusted, recognized place where people know they can get real help for these issues.
That means continuing to expand awareness, growing the practice responsibly, and eventually building a team that can serve more people across multiple locations.
In service-based businesses, growth isn’t just about revenue. It’s about reaching the people who need your help.
Supporting Families Through the Children’s Long-Term Waiver Program

One particularly meaningful aspect of Becca’s work is her participation in Wisconsin’s Children’s Long-Term Support Waiver Program.
This Medicaid-supported program assists families who have children with disabilities such as:
Down syndrome
Autism
Other developmental conditions
Through this program, Becca is able to provide therapy services to families who might otherwise struggle to access this type of care. For many families, it has been life-changing.

Why These Conversations Matter
The goal of my Small Business Spotlight series is simple.
Local businesses are doing incredible work, but many people never hear their stories.
By sharing these conversations through video, blog posts, and social media, we can turn one conversation into multiple pieces of helpful content that allow people to discover great local businesses like Wisconsin Myofunctional Therapy when they search online.
And sometimes, that discovery leads someone to the exact help they’ve been looking for.
